The first thing I did was to have the partial wall removed between the dining and living areas, and the upper cabinets removed along the dining side of the kitchen. This made the space brighter, bigger and created open concept living for the family. All walls were paneled and drywalling was not an option financially so I suggested they have the walls painted. I chose a warm white to bring more light to the space. All carpeting was removed and replaced with cherry laminate. Mouldings were added to the existing cabinets to create a more detailed finish and they were painted a soft yellow. Hinges and pulls were replaced with a brushed nickel style to complete the look. Lighting was replaced with a wrought iron style chandelier. Furniture was sourced through a local antiques and second hand dealer with the china hutch being painted a warm brick red to compliment the warm tones already existing in the space. The dining chairs were recovered with a striped fabric in the warm tones also. A mirror was added to reflect more light into the room. Accessories such as candles, and plants were purchased to complete the look.
